Simply Kate

For the past few days, I've been feeling low. Focusing on every single flaw and never the good things about me.

So I made a scrapbook page with only the good words that I think describe me. The positive, uplifting ones.

It's miraculous how well it worked.

This is me. Simply Kate.

I hope you'll all remember the good words about yourselves today too. Forget the bad ones.

I'm It!

Like little kiddies on the playground, I am in a game of tag! But because we're not spry little children, we're bloggers who are glued to the computer, this is how it works.

I was tagged by the lovely Jess @ It Is A Big Deal, It Is To Me! She's adorable. I heart her!

Before I can pass the tag along, I have to answer 8 questions. Questions, prepare to be answered!

1. If you could spend an entire day with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you do?

I would spend the day with J.R.R. Tolkien. I would ask him about the most amazing fantasy world ever and kick his butt at Lord of the Rings trivia. Cause I'm the best.

2. If you could only listen to ONE song for the rest of your life, which song would it be and why?

The Song That Never Ends. If I'm only going to listen to one song for my whole life, it's going to get old. I might as well pick a song that already annoys me. And Lambchop is cute. I won't have friends because they'll hate my music choice. So, I could kick it with an old singing sock for the rest of my life.

3. What did you want to be when you a child?

I wanted to be an artist. Painting is messy. Where is bad?

4. If you were a yogurt parfait, would you leave the fruit at the bottom of the cup, or would you stir it all together?

I would stir it up. It may be less attractive. The creamy white yogurt is now an unpleasant blue pasty color and it's lumpy from the granola; but it's a perfect mixture of flavor. While unmixed yogurt looks perfect and pretty, no one wants to eat boring plain yogurt.

5. What TV Show do you wish was still on the air?

Friends! What else?! We could see how Chandler handled having twins. I can just imagine the hilarity! It would be genius!

6. If you could spend a weekend in New Orleans with Jess, would you?

Of course! I've never been to Louisiana! But if I come for Mardi Gras, as much as I love the bead necklaces, I'm not showing the sisters to anyone!

7. Do you think Ross and Rachel made a good couple?

Yes. He was whiny. She was whiny. They were perfect for each other. I mean, he's her lobster! (And also because it was so funny to watch them break up.)

8. You rub a lamp and a genie (voiced by Robin Williams) pops out and grants you three wishes.  The same rules apply as in Aladdin.  What do you wish for?

1. I wish that I would never gain weight and be able to eat whatever I want!
2. I wish for an instant teleportation device to take me anywhere in the world at any time.
3. I wish that I would never have to take a shower and never smell or look dirty.

Now to pass it on to 8 other fabulous bloggers!

Here are the questions you must answer!
  1. If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
  2. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
  3. Do you smash the wedding cake in each other's faces or not?
  4. If you could play any character in a move, who would it be and why?
  5. What would you super hero name be?
  6. There a monster in your house. Do you go into the attic?
  7. Would you rather be forced to scream at the top of your lungs for an hour everyday or have earlobes the size of basketballs?
  8. if you had to eat a crayon, what color would it be?
I look forward to reading your answers!

Notes to Things

Pandora -
Why on earth would you ruin my beautiful medley of Imogen Heap, Coldplay, Ingrid Michaelson, OneRepublic, Regina Spektor and Barcelona and mess it up with Evanescence and Nickleback? I do not understand how you think. Silly internet radio.
Please fix this. I'm in the mood of lovely softer tunes tonight.
Katie
P.S. I still love you.

Google Reader,
How is it that I read all 223 new blog posts (yeah, I'm obsessed with reading blogs!) and with a sense of accomplishment, go to sleep for the night. But when I wake up the next morning, I already have another 100 blogs to read? *Sigh* The life of an obsessive blogger.

Pandora -
Sorry to bother you again. I really want to start an R&B/Rap playlist. But I'm terrified of what you might bring me. No Beiber. That would be the last straw. I would dump you like loser boyfriend if you tried to force that on me. You have been warned. I can't be expected to forgive you if you do something so offensive.

TV:
Thank you for bringing me wonderful shows like Chuck and Glee. I appreciate funny things to watch. I love how much I smile and laugh. Joy is a good thing.

Sunshine,
I thought you were a pretty good book for a while. You don't have chapters which has bugged me to no end, but I looked past it. However, and I NEVER thought I would say this but... Bring back the vampire! (Don't judge me.) I don't want to give up on you yet. Please move the story along now or I might be forced to find a new book to read. I don't want to do that to you.

Bathroom Scale -
I must say, I am getting tired of your bipolar issues. You're up. You're down. Make up your mind will you? I'm having a hard time keeping up with your mood swings! Do something about that, please?

Camera,
I'm peeved with you. That's right. Peeved. I filmed a video and you made me look orange. I looked like someone from Jersey Shore. That's not okay. I'm peeved.

Dear Taco Soup,
You are yummy. That is all.

Harry Potter!
I can't wait! I simply can't wait!

Exciting!

I have a few exciting things to talk about!

#1: I love my job. Kids are adorable.

#2: I did my very first guest post on Vic's blog! Check out the post and her blog!

#3: I want to thank all of you guys! I reached 100 followers today, and I am so thrilled and baffled that 100 people want to read my stuff! I love you guys!

#4: Glee! Do I have to say anything else?

Crazy Day

Today has been a whirlwind crazy day. And I've only been awake for 5 hours. Let's recap.

11:30 AM: I'm half asleep in bed, my mind on the verge of waking up and my body trying to force it to roll over and go back to sleep. I hear footsteps coming down the stairs and I groan to myself. Being one of the only three things in the basement worth anyone coming down for, someone was probably going to knock on my door in a moment. I prayed that it was someone to do some laundry, but the sound of knuckles rapping on my door met me. I ignored them. Sometimes they'll just go away. This wasn't one of those time. The door opened.

It was my sister. She handed me a piece of paper with my aunt's name and phone number on it. She explained that my aunt had been offered a child care job (I love working with kids) but had turned it down and thought I might be interested. I was up in an instant and called her back and got the information.

1:00 PM: By this time, I had called my aunt, gotten the information, called the office and had set up an interview for 3:30. Yes. Two and a half hours. I fixed up my resume, organized my small portfolio, and tried on multiple outfits. As time went on, I got more and more nervous. I hurt because I was so nervous. I shaved my legs, fixed my makeup and hair.

3:00 PM: I ran out of things to do. I was freaking out. I haven't had an interview in months and really wanted this job. It sounded perfect for me.

3:30 PM: I'm sitting down from a very friendly woman. She was so easy to talk to, and the interview went well. She showed me around the building. I was very prepared to act like this guy until they gave me the job!

3:55 PM: Just enough time to stop at Sonic which is down the street to get a Happy Hour (half off) Raspberry Limeade. Mmm.

4:00 PM: Hugged my dad in the street as I said these words: "I start tomorrow at 8:30!"

That's right folks! I'm no longer unemployed! I woke up this morning with no leads, no prospects, no job. And within 5 hours, I am a working gal! (But I have plenty of time to blog. It's only 9 hours a week.)

Remember to enter my GIVEAWAY! Only a few more days left!

Interview!

I need your kind thoughts and well wishes, my lovely readers. I have an interview in 15 minutes.

It's been a crazy three hours. I'll be sure to write a better post soon!

I'm just all ready to go, and nervous and needed to DO something!

Wish me luck!

To Me:

Hey Katie. It's you. Well... it's me. It's us. It's Katie from the future. I can see that you don't understand.

It's me, Katie from the future and I am here to give a warning to you, Katie in the past. You are about to go to sleep. It is Saturday night for you. Here is what you need to do tomorrow. Listen carefully.

When the alarm goes off Sunday morning, get up. I know that your head is dizzy, your throat hurts, and you can't breathe. This is just the remnants of your cold. These symptoms are going to pass in about an hour. If you get up and shower, you will be fine. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT just roll over and go back to sleep. You should go to church.

If you get up now, you will also save yourself from some really awful, crazy weird dreams. Trust me. You don't want to experience the madness.

I know you don't realize it now, but it's is our ward's Linger Longer. You know how amazing they are. Once you realize this, it is already too late. You will be sorry that you didn't go.

Next, you'll play more Zelda with Kevin. You'll play through Lord Jabu Jabu's Belly. We both know it's our least favorite Temple. Why? Because you hate the boss. He haunts your nightmares.

You'll also get a few other things accomplished in the game. But you'll make a mistake. You have two options.

  1. Don't jump off the platform. Climb the vines.
  2. If you do jump off the platform, SAVE THE GAME before restarting the console! You will have to go through all of the Jabu Jabu nonsense AGAIN. SAVE. THE. GAME! Trust me.
Just remember these things tomorrow. I suppose if you don't, the day is still a pretty good one. But I recommend following my advice. Good day to you.

P.S. Don't forget to sign up for my GIVEAWAY!! You have until Saturday!

Notes and a Giveaway!

Dear Cold,
Please go away. You're not pleasant and I really quite dislike you. From not being able to fall asleep last night due to coughing and being woken up this morning, panicked and unable to breath; let's just say, We're NOT Friends! Stop with the acheyness and congestion.
Please and Thank You.
Girl praying to get better.

Zelda,
I'm glad I have you to help me waste time. You're the best. Twilight Princess is still my favorite, Wind Waker is amazing, but long and tedious. And now Ocarina of Time is amazing, but I've forgotten so much. Thanks for the fun times!
Your fan,
Katie
P.S. You're even more fun when you have a buddy to race through with. SO fun. :)

Books,
I love you and I'm sorry we have such an on again off again relationship. I really want to read you! I really do! But there are so many projects I'm working on that you get forgotten! I promise to try and read a little before falling asleep every night. I know it's not much, but it's the best I can give you.
I love you.
Your long lost lover.

Holy Customized Sneakers, Batman! I love you guys. Why did I wait so long to join this amazing community of bloggers?! Thanks for making me smile!
Katie Weber

Dear Cold,
You're still here. You think because I wrote about you at the first of the post, I would forget about you by now? Not a chance. Pack your bags and leave. Now. I won't ask you again.

Bed,
Thank you for being so reliable and taking care of me while cold annoys me so. You're the best.
Your cuddle buddy.

Die Fly!

I never understood why the Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly would ever swallow a fly.

Now I do. The thing was zooming around her room, buzzing as loud as a million Twilight fan-girls. She swallowed it to shut it up!

See?! She looks like she's going to go insane!

Only, she wasn't smart enough to know that stomach acid doesn't kill flies. Spiders do. And then she was stuck in an endless cycle of eating animals whole until her stomach popped like a balloon.

See. I'm smarter than her. I know better than to swallow bugs on purpose. I run around my room like a mad woman with a fly swatter. Bugs beware! I will be your doom!

At least... that was my determination.

So last night when I heard the ZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzZzz of a hairy house fly zooming aimlessly around my room, I was up in an instant with a primal need to slaughter the annoying creature. "Shoo fly" was not enough. The thing needed to die a horrible and painful death. I was the hunter and it was my disease carrying prey.

Has anyone ever tried to aim with a fly swatter?! You have to move quickly, because though flies can't fly in a straight line and repeatedly run into walls and windows, they have excellent escape tactics. So you swing that swatter like a death mace and miss completely because the handle is too long to aim correctly and you have to hunt the bugger down again.

This would be annoying in any case, but top it off with having a head cold and you've got a really dizzy, ticked off Katie. It's incredible how such a small thing that can ruin my mood. (I'm tempted to segue into how that relates to real life... but I really am just talking about a fly.) Soon enough the buzzing sounded like taunting laughter. It was mocking me. Evil. The thing is evil.

I finally whacked him hard. I knew I smashed the offending beast. I went to sleep and life was good. (Though I had nightmares about being attacked by a giant housefly.)

ZzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzZZz...

It was now three hours later. And I was getting woken up by the buzzing and soft 'tap tap tap' of a blind-in-the-darkness fly repeatedly head butting the wall.

Where are the revenge seeking spiders when I need them?

I somehow managed to fall back to sleep. I haven't heard him yet today. Maybe the internal bleeding I gave him finally killed him. One can only hope...

Family

We went down to my grandmother's house to take family pictures. It's always a big hassle. We take the photos ourself with the help of our camera's remote, and we always have to color coordinate which causes a lot of stress. But I think that they turned out well. Here are a few of my favorites.

The whole family at the Mulberry Tree. Growing up this was one of my favorite things about grandma's house. It had bits of wood nailed all over that we used to climb up. It used to seem so big when I was little.

It's tradition to take a goofy picture.

My parents. Aren't they adorable? I love them so much.

Me and my sisters. Such pretty girls.

We all took a picture with my beautiful grandma. I love her so much.

This is by the cow barn in her field. This is my favorite picture of the day. I love my family.

(P.S. Way to go family for color coordinating with my blog. You guys are awesome!)

Six Degrees of Katie's Brain

My head is a jumbled mess of thoughts. So many of them are unconnected, but like six degrees of Kevin Bacon, I'm sure I could figure out a way to connect them.

Thought #1: It's weird seeing people my age getting married. People YOUNGER than me getting married. I'm happy for them. Albeit a little jealous. But when it comes down to it, I'm not ready for that kind of a commitment. Maybe if I had that one amazing guy in my life, I'd be willing and capable of taking that step. But at the moment, I haven't found the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with. So, it's not that I'm jealous that they are married and moving on with their lives, starting that new chapter in their lives. I'm jealous that they have someone to love for the rest of eternity and I don't.

Thought #2: Why am I having so much trouble keeping to my diet or to my exercise plan? I want to lose this weight. So badly. I've been stuck within 3 pounds on either side of 180 for the past 4 months. It's aggravating. After losing nearly 40 pounds so quickly, being stuck at this weight that doesn't satisfy me is really bothering me. I don't think that my clothes look nice on my body, though I try my best to hide how uncomfortable I feel. (Connection to #1: I've been feeling like my appearance isn't attractive to men.)

Thought #3: I'm still unemployed. In October, I'll have been unemployed for a year. It's not that I haven't been trying to find a job. I just under qualified. I know that I need to get over my stupid pride and start at the bottom. Work at McDonald's or something. But honestly... the thought repulses me. For a few reasons, but the biggest one is that I have little to no self control when it comes to food. I've been doing pretty well trying to avoid fast food, but if I work there, I might just gain those 40 pounds right back. I can't let that happen. But I hate that I don't have any money. To buy clothes, to buy a car, to get out of my parent's house. (Connection to #2: Maybe if I had money to buy clothes better suited for my body type right now, I wouldn't feel so awkward at my weight.)

Thought #4: I've been messing around with Photoshop again after a long time. It's taken a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things, but I think I picked it up alright. I worked on my blog and I love the way it turned out. I owe Photoshop for all of that. I feel like I should get back into making videos as well. I haven't made a video since I started losing weight. Mostly because I was losing weight so quickly, I thought it wouldn't be long before I looked all smashing. I could make a video in a few months and surprise all of my viewers with how good I looked. But I don't feel like I'm at that point yet, so I haven't made a video. I've been trying to write a lot more as well, but I don't feel like it's anything special. It doesn't ignite my interest. (Connection to #3: I feel mediocre in everything I do. Why would anyone want to hire someone mediocre when they can have someone amazing?)

Thought #5: I want to read. But every time I sit down with a book, I read half a chapter and lose interest. (Connection to #4: Maybe I'm jealous that the writing is better than mine?)

Thought #6: My grandma is really sick. She has cancer and has only been given a few months to live. I think I've taken for granted how wonderful she is. I love her so much. I've been learning so much about her just by listening to my family members talk about her life. Yesterday she told a simple story about how when my grandpa proposed, he had to leave soon after. He was in the military and was stationed somewhere else. He sent her the rings in the mail and she had to put it on her own hand. I wish I had taken more time to get to know about her life. She's an amazing woman, and I have only seen a small bit of her incredible life. (Connection to #5: My grandma's life is a story that I don't know, just like all those books that I can't find the gumption to read.)

This post was kind of depressing. Forgive me for my rants. I've just got so many negative thoughts in my head right now and needed to get them out somehow. I'll try and replace them with positive ideas and get back to happy posting soon.

...Random notes...

Uintah Utes Football,
GO TEAM! You did so well at Homecoming last night. Way to kick some Union butt! You need to work on defense though. Seriously.
You made me proud.
Katie
P.S. You need to inspire the rest of the extracurriculars to be awesome too. Drill team has 9 girls. What's up with that?

Dear Family Pictures,
Why do you always cause me so much stress?
Bah.

Body:
Stop getting tired. It's your own fault you wake up too early. Cut it out or stop complaining.
So there.

To my blog,
I love you. Thanks for looking so cute. I worried that you wouldn't, but I really love how you turned out.  You're beautiful and fun.
Signed,
The Writer

Dear Grandma,
I love you so so much. I'm so happy that you're a part of my life and that I get to spend time with you. You're such an amazing woman. I'm so thankful to you for starting our wonderful family.
I love you.

Employers.
Have you all made a pact to not hire me? Because I'm really tired of feeling like a useless failure. How about someone quits the "Don't Hire Katie" club? That would be nice. Much appreciation.

Bed.
You are like a siren that is calling me. Maybe I'll just curl up on top of you and never leave. For some reason, I don't think either of us will mind. We'll make it a party and invite pillows and quilt to join us. Things just wouldn't be the same without them.
Much love.

Hard Hats Needed

Simply Kate is undergoing some construction. I'm mostly finished, I think.

I can't tell if everything is too blue. Part of me says yes, the other part likes it a lot. What do you guys think? I'm interested in your opinions and tips.

I'm going to let it sit for a few days to give me a few days to see what I think.

Here's the before shot if you haven't been here in a while.

Let me know what you think!

I just found out that my adorable header only works if you have the font on your computer. It's free, and adorable. It's called "The Bends". Here is a link to download it and so many other adorable free fonts.

Someone Loves Me!

Back in May, I was awarded a Blog Award. I am just now accepting it. I am the ultimate procrastinator. I'm not ungrateful! I promise! I was so excited when I received this award that I was telling everyone!

I was given this award by the lovely KG over at A City Girl in Rural Alaska
(Her blog is hilarious. Every time I read it, I crack up. I heart her. Thank you KG!)

To accept this wonderful award, I must, first, tell you all about 10 things I love:

#1. My Family.
They are my everything, and I don't know what I would do without them!

#2: My computers (and internet access)
I spend so much of my day on the computer. I would be a broken shell of a person without it.

#3: Fluffy Quilts.
Who doesn't love cuddling up in a huge poofy quilt?

#4: Zelda.
It's just incredible. I've been playing through a few Zelda games lately, and plan on doing a few more. I love it. (And Link is so sexy. Mm.)

#5: Calvin and Hobbes.
I've loved them since I was a little kid. I collect the books.

#6: Photoshop.
'Nuff said!

#7: Lord of the Rings
Because it's amazing. That is all.

#8: Picture Frames
What's not to love about a good collage of picture frames? (This is my room. Cute huh?)

#9: Chocolate Banana Shakes
I can't even find the words. The deliciousness is insanity.

#10: Barcelona
Their music is incredible. I am totally crushing on this band.

Now I get to pass this beautiful award on to ten bloggers that I love!
You should all check them out too!
