New Adventures

I'm moving today.

To say that I am terrified would be a GIANT understatement.

In a few hours, I'll be making the long drive to Vegas. Only this time, it's not a trip and I won't be coming home in a few days. I'll be staying there as my parents drive away.

This has happened to me twice before. I was 18. And I don't remember being nearly this scared. Maybe that's because the first time, I didn't realize how hard it was to be an adult. Maybe I wasn't aware that I would be home again in three months.

The second time was six months later, where I decided to try this again. Once more, three months later, I came home.

There are a few things that scare me more than those times.

1. I am scared that I will fail again.

2. It's nearly 5 hours farther away from home than it was the first two times.

3. It's a much bigger city where I don't know anyone but my sister.

I'm also really excited, but my fear of failing is making me a nervous wreck right now.

To help me feel better, let's list some good things!

1. Being so close to Alyson!

2. Warmth!

3. More people and more things to do!

4. Being nearer to Kevin.

I am definitely excited. It is however, very hard to be sitting in my old room on the computer that has not yet been packed when the rest of the room is completely empty but for the furniture that belongs to my parents. It's like a ghost room.

And it looks so much bigger and yet, smaller at the same time. It's strange.

I'll be on my way to new adventures in a few hours. Wish me luck!

Chaos

Blogging fail. Epic.

I want to apologize to you all. Want a quick update about my life?

It's chaos!

There is so much involved in the moving process that some days I wake up and don't even know where to begin.

I am applying for jobs right and left. (I have one I really want. Please send good thoughts! Thanks muchly!)

Packing. I always knew I had a lot of stuff, but I had no idea that I had THIS much! It's overwhelming and decided whether to keep something, sell it, pack it, give it away or leave it home is very time consuming.

Spending time with people I'm leaving behind. Friends and family are something that I'm going to miss most and so I want to soak up my time with them.

I was hired to edit one of my cousin's family home videos. So I'm trying to get them all transfered to DVD before I leave. It's time consuming.

Finishing my quilt top. I've been working on it since mid December, and I would like the top to be finished before I leave. Though I'm not sure that is going to happen.

I leave in eight days! That's crazy! And exciting! And terrifying!

So, with all that I have had and have yet to do, please forgive me and my blog missing-ness. I promise that as soon as I possibly can, I will be back and posting as much as possible!

How have you all been?

Favorites

Have you ever had one of those nights where you just couldn't sleep because there was too much to do. Stuff that was so much more important than going to bed at a healthy time?

I just had one.

It was filled with quite a few amazing moments.

I'm going to name a few now.

1. A friend took me out to dinner as a going away present. (I'm moving in just over 2 weeks! Whoa!) There is only one thing better than a chicken burrito in a handmade, fresh tortilla with green chili rice, smothered in medium sauce with cheese, lettuce and pico from Cafe Rio. And that's a chicken burrito in a handmade, fresh tortilla with green chili rice, smothered in medium sauce with cheese, lettuce and pico from Cafe Rio that the friend graciously paid for. Mmm. (For the record, I'm not being paid to advertise. I really do just love the place.)

2. Pretending to be full so as not to disgust my friend with how much I can eat just to break open the leftovers the instant I was dropped off. Mmm!

3. Finishing Majora's Mask with Kevin! He helped me through that stinkin' game. I have tried and failed multiple times. And with his amazing help, I beat it! Woo!

4. Adding more listings to my Yard Sale Blog! I have exactly 24 more items to list, but there are so many things up already! And I've been selling things like mad! Go check it out or you might miss out on something you really want!

5. Finishing Dollhouse. I watched nine episodes. Ba ha! Gut-wrenching twists. I may or may not have cried. A lot. Sadness. But awesome sadness! Joss Whedon is a complete genius!

6. Keeping my hands busy while watching 9 hours of Dollhouse by writing random love notes and leaving them all over the web for a certain special someone. By the way, I want you all to do me a favor, go over to his blog and leave him some extra love. Leave him a comment! And follow too! He writes awesome posts! It would make me so happy to send him some more love in the form of you wonderful people!

7. Chatting with my adorable seven year old niece on Facebook chat.

8. Wearing pajama pants that are 7 sizes too big with a dressy shirt all night. Nothing says class and comfort like lace and polka dots!

9. Watching my goofy cat sprawl out on my lap in the weirdest positions. Even if she did leave cat hair all over my shirt.

10. Writing this list and realizing how truly blessed I am to have these little pleasures in my life.

But seriously! Leave Kevin some love while I try to figure out where to send two of the emails that were Mailer Daemon'd back to me. Bah!

Yard Sale?

Hey Katie, where have you been?

Umm... Life is really busy right now?

Liar. Everyone knows that's just a cop out meaning that your blog is a low priority.

I do care about you guys! I promise!

Puh-huh!

I have exciting news!

...

I'm moving to Las Vegas!

Are you going to be a stripper?

No.

Rats.

Anyway, I just wanted to apologize to you all for being so M.I.A. for the first few weeks of 2011! (I'm still getting used to writing the year.) Life has been massively crazy with all the Vegas plans (And my lack of blogging motivation.) I hope you can forgive me!

I promise I will get back into things shortly! And I will finally take down the Christmas decor on the blog! Go me!

I have one question for you all though. As I've been thinking of all I have to pack, I've realized that I have a lot of books and movies that I don't want to take with me, for space reasons. Everything is in really good condition. A few of the books are even signed!

If I were to create a "yard sale" blog, would any of you actually buy anything?

I hope all of you are having a wonderful 2011 so far!

Ambitions

In 2010 I made a short list of goals that I wanted to achieve during the year. I've come to realize that I am terrible at completing goals. Even my own. I end up focusing on one, the one that is most plausible and forget about the rest.

A few examples:

"Read. A lot!"

I read a total of ten books this year. Eight of those were rereads. I tried to read three books that I gave up on halfway through due to complete boredom.

"Make more videos than I did in 2009"

I made four. That's pathetic. I get a green screen for Christmas and I make only four videos?!

You get the point. I did work really hard one of those goals though.

"Continue to lose weight."

I lost 33 pounds this year. (44 pounds total since I started losing weight in December 2009.) I call that an incredible achievement! My original goal was 170 pounds. I'm less than that now. (My new goal is 155. I think that's where I'll feel happiest.)

So this year, I am not setting goals. This year I am simply going to name the things I hope happen this year. Things that I am looking forward to, things that I would love to happen, but won't beat myself up if I don't accomplish.

Things that I'm excited for:

Reaching my goal weight!
(This is my only goal. I WILL do it. Less than 15 pounds to go!)

Reading new books and old favorites!

Working hard!

Possibly moving to Las Vegas!

New and old relationships!

Family events!

Blog changes!

A brand new year!

It's going to be wonderful! I am determined to make it so!

Happy New Year Everyone!

2010 in Review

2010 was filled with so many experiences. Both good and bad.

The Bad:
  • My favorite teacher was arrested.
  • My cousin Annie passed away after a long struggle with cancer.
  • Multiple heart breaks.
  • Losing my grandmother. She was such a big part of my life and I miss her terrible.
  • Losing my job. It was only ten hours a week, but I really enjoyed working there.
The Good:
  • Trip to Provo to visit with my cousins Hannah and Eve.
  • Driving four hours to see Nashelle play Maria in West Side Story. She was spectacular.
  • Road trip to Provo with Nashelle. Manicures, good food, and a hilarious show. It deserves it's own mention.
  • Seeing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. SO funny!
  • Heading to Vegas to move Alyson into her house and paint it.
  • Kissing a few guys.
  • Losing 45 pounds!
  • Driving a shiny black Jaguar.
  • Spending 6 weeks in Las Vegas with Aly.
  • Seeing the Lion King at Mandalay Bay Casino. It was spectacular!
  • Gambling for the first time and realizing how pointless I find it.
  • Going camping with my sister, aunt and two cousins. Girls are the best!
  • Walking the strip with two of my sisters and friends.
  • Going to see KA! Cirque du Soleil at MGM Casino. It was mind blowing!
  • Meeting Kevin.
  • Getting the job at Prime Time 4 Kids. It was such a great job!
  • Making my tutu and wearing it around on Halloween.
  • Going ice skating. It's been such a long time since I have.
  • Singing at Holly Days.
  • Editing all of our home videos and putting them on DVD for my parent's and sister's Christmas present.
  • Seeing the lights on Temple Square.
  • Playing games with family during the holidays.

Snowmen

Living in Utah, we don't get much chance to make snowmen.

But Katie, it snows all the time in Utah!

Yes. But it's never snowmen snow.

There is a such thing as snowmen snow?

Yes. Snowmen snow is wet.

All snow is wet, Katie...

Yes. But Utah snow is too dry to make a snowman. You can't even make a decent snowball. It won't pack. It's perfect for skiing though.

Okay Katie. Okay.

Anyway, the point is, when the snow is heavy and wet enough to make a snowman, I try my hardest to get out there to make one.

Sad thing is, it's usually really late at night when the snow is packable and I miss out because by morning, it has dried out.

I'm going to tell you all something. I don't make your typical snowman. The three balls of varying sizes, the broom, the scarf, the corn cob pipe. When I do make a three tiered snowman, it's of the Calvin and Hobbes variety.

But lately, I've gotten into sculpting my snowmen, rather than stacking them. Most of my attempts fail though.

This was my first snow sculpture. I called it: "A Little Bit of Snowmance."

Tonight, I decided that I would try to make another snowman. I was planning on recreating my adorable snow couple (Josh and Olivia) but inspiration took hold as soon as I started to pack the snow.

Snow Santa and Simply Kate wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!
