A Couple of Notes

Dear book lovers,
For all of you wondering if I gave up on filming book reviews, I want to let you know that I haven't. With travel and visitors and losing my voice, it's just taking me a while to get it done. I like making book reviews! I just want them to be good. And distractions and raspy voices don't help. I have FIVE books I'm going to review at this point. But it might be more while I wait for my voice to return. Thank you for being patient!
Kate
P.S. I've started thinking about which books I want to read this fall. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Raising Cane's,
Holy cow your lemonade is good! Just thought you ought to know how utterly refreshing it is in this Vegas heat. Thanks for hydrating me!
Slurp,
A fan
Hey Cold!
Where did you come from? I was perfectly healthy last night. I woke up this morning with no voice and a throat so raw, you'd think I'd gargled with saltwater and razor blades. Go away! Don't make me sick my antibodies on you!
Fed up,
The girl whose body you've captured.
Lovely authors and publishers,
Please, please, please consider sending me Advanced Reader Copies of your books. It would make my day. You're all wonderful.
Anxiously awaiting every word!

Great Things!

There have been some great additions into the world of Simply Kate.
One:
I've been reading like a maniac.
I love to read, but with chaos and distraction, I don't always read as much I want to.
But after purchasing three new books with the Amazon.com gift card I was given for my birthday, my interest in books has flared back into life!
As such, I added a new feature to my blog's menu. All about the books I read! You see the link on the menu bar under my header!
I thought it would be great fun to share the books I am reading with all of you. The page is separated into two different sections. What I am currently reading and what I have recently finished, which will feature the last twenty books I have read and where you can find the video reviews I have made for them!
I'm really excited about this new project and hope you will all check it out and even read some of these books along with me!
And I am always on the lookout for more books, so if you want to recommend something you've read that you think I'd enjoy; please tell me about it!
Two:
I am now a proud associate of GameStop!
That's right. I'll be working in a video game store! Perfect right?
There are some great perks. I get to rent any game for four days so I can better recommend it to customers. How cool is that?
It's only part time right now, and I'm still looking for a second job, but because I have been hired at GameStop, I am now able to stay in Las Vegas! Yay!
These little updates have me very happy and excited! It's a good day!
In other news, this guy also makes me very very happy!
He's just kind of perfect for me. That's all.
What is good about your day?

Books!

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.
Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

The People of Sparks by Jeanne DuPrau
The People of Sparks picks up where The City of Ember leaves off. Lina and Doon have emerged from the underground city to the exciting new world above, and it isn’t long before they are followed by the other inhabitants of Ember. The Emberites soon come across a town where they are welcomed, fed, and given places to sleep. But the town’s resources are limited and it isn’t long before resentment begins to grow between the two groups. When anonymous acts of vandalism push them toward violence, it’s up to Lina and Doon to discover who’s behind the vandalism and why, before it’s too late.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
If you care for journeys there and back, out of the comfortable Western world, over the edge of the Wild, and home again, and can take an interest in a humble hero (blessed with a little wisdom and a little courage and considerable good luck), here is a record of such a journey and such a traveler. The period is the ancient time between the age of Faerie and the dominion of men, when the famous forest of Mirkwood was still standing, and the mountains were full of danger. In following the path of this humble adventurer, you will learn by the way (as he did) -- if you do not already know all about these things -- much about trolls, goblins, dwarves, and elves, and get some glimpses into the history and politics of a neglected but important period. For Mr. Bilbo Baggins visited various notable persons; conversed with the dragon, Smaug the Magnificent; and was present, rather unwillingly, at the Battle of the Five Armies. This is all the more remarkable, since he was a hobbit. Hobbits have hitherto been passed over in history and legend, perhaps because they as a rule preferred comfort to excitement. But this account, based on his personal memoirs, of the one exciting year in the otherwise quiet life of Mr. Baggins will give you a fair idea of the estimable people now (it is said) becoming rather rare. They do not like noise.
