Hard Hats Needed

Simply Kate is undergoing some construction. I'm mostly finished, I think.

I can't tell if everything is too blue. Part of me says yes, the other part likes it a lot. What do you guys think? I'm interested in your opinions and tips.

I'm going to let it sit for a few days to give me a few days to see what I think.

Here's the before shot if you haven't been here in a while.

Let me know what you think!

I just found out that my adorable header only works if you have the font on your computer. It's free, and adorable. It's called "The Bends". Here is a link to download it and so many other adorable free fonts.

Someone Loves Me!

Back in May, I was awarded a Blog Award. I am just now accepting it. I am the ultimate procrastinator. I'm not ungrateful! I promise! I was so excited when I received this award that I was telling everyone!

I was given this award by the lovely KG over at A City Girl in Rural Alaska
(Her blog is hilarious. Every time I read it, I crack up. I heart her. Thank you KG!)

To accept this wonderful award, I must, first, tell you all about 10 things I love:

#1. My Family.
They are my everything, and I don't know what I would do without them!

#2: My computers (and internet access)
I spend so much of my day on the computer. I would be a broken shell of a person without it.

#3: Fluffy Quilts.
Who doesn't love cuddling up in a huge poofy quilt?

#4: Zelda.
It's just incredible. I've been playing through a few Zelda games lately, and plan on doing a few more. I love it. (And Link is so sexy. Mm.)

#5: Calvin and Hobbes.
I've loved them since I was a little kid. I collect the books.

#6: Photoshop.
'Nuff said!

#7: Lord of the Rings
Because it's amazing. That is all.

#8: Picture Frames
What's not to love about a good collage of picture frames? (This is my room. Cute huh?)

#9: Chocolate Banana Shakes
I can't even find the words. The deliciousness is insanity.

#10: Barcelona
Their music is incredible. I am totally crushing on this band.

Now I get to pass this beautiful award on to ten bloggers that I love!
You should all check them out too!

Plans

Life is random. I can never predict what I'm going to be doing a day in advance, let alone a month, a year, a lifetime.

Right now I am just trying to live one day at a time.

Today? It hasn't gone according to plan. But, I can't really complain.

Yesterday I slept for 16.5 hours. Today I slept for four. I'm a little sleepy, but I think it's mostly because I'm doing tedious things.

I had planned on sleeping much longer. A full 8 hours was the hope. Instead I opened my eyes at four in the morning and started my day.

I started some laundry that has started piling up around my room. I decided that while I waited, I would get on my desktop computer and edit a few photos that I took. Without even opening Photoshop, I went to work trying to make it run better and faster. Now, 6 hours later, it is being upgrades to Windows 7. I've been procrastinating the change because I didn't want to move all of my junk and then reinstall my favorite programs. I know that it will make my computer run so much faster, so a little bit of extra effort is going to be worth it.

The plan for the rest of the day? Probably going to change as the day goes on. But for now:

  1. Finish cleaning my room. Laundry, dusting, vacuuming and other odds and ends. (I have a hankering to reorganize my book shelves... but that will have to wait for another day.
  2. Shower and get looking fancy. I love looking and feeling fancy.
  3. Fix up my computer. Make sure it's running properly and has all of my favorite programs.
  4. Play a little Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. An online friend and I are racing to finish first. We already played Twilight Princess (I won. Cause I'm awesome.) And we plan on playing two others once this one is finished.
  5. Go to Institute. I haven't been since my first week in Vegas. That was back in July. I miss it. It's the beginning of the Fall schedule so I'll be able to go on both Wednesdays and Thursdays. Can't wait!
  6. Read some Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
  7. Edit some photos. (That is if #3 gets done.)
  8. Write notes to people I love to brighten their days. (I bought new stationary. I love it.)
Sounds like a full load.

Ooh! Upgrade is completed! Thanks Blog for distracting me so nicely!

By the way, here are four photos I'm looking forward to editing in crazy ways. Changing hair color, putting me in crazy places, anything that I can manage in Photoshop. So stay tuned. I'll post these four photos once they have been edited.

If you have any ideas for edits, let me know. I'm always looking for great new ideas. (Also, I must love you guys if I let you see raw images of myself. Mwah!)

Lazy Tuesday?

I went to be last night at 1am. I was exhausted. More exhausted than I usually am.

I woke up today and looked at the clock. 5:32pm. I roll back over. I don't want to wake up yet. I've only been asleep for 4 hours. Then my mind does a double take. Did that say PM?!

My eyes confirm this to be true. I just slept for 16.5 hours.

I don't understand how that happened.

Yes. I was having amazing dreams.

No. I didn't have anything to wake up for.

Still. I got twice the recommended dose of sleep for a night.

Sad thing is, I'm still exhausted and I'm going to go to sleep again soon. What a joke.

Anti-Anti-Social

I am officially getting out of my slump tonight. I am through with being antisocial. I am looking good and feeling good and I am determined to make my life mean something.

Last night, I got talking to a cousin of mine. When he asked me what I was doing, I quite literally had to say "Nothing."

I'm going to go out and socialize. I met a new girl at church yesterday and offered her a ride to Family Home Evening. It's good for me to find new friends, and I think I could really like Liz. I don't know much about her, but I really hope that I've made a new friend.

Over the past little while, so many of my single friends have gotten or are getting married, or moved away. I really don't have anyone here anymore. So I need to get out there and meet people. That's what I'm going to do.

I'm also going to keep looking for a job. But I think I'm going to get back into making videos, and writing to keep me busy in the mean time.

I am determined that the fall will be so much better than the summer. My mind is set. It will be amazing.

I am young. I am talented. I am beautiful.
No one (including myself) will convince me otherwise.

August: A Month in the Life of Katie

Highlights:

  • 6th ~ Alyson and I drove to Cedar City to spend the weekend with our aunt Susan and cousins Julie and Cassie.
  • 7th-8th ~ The five of us girls went camping. Gorgeous mountains. We got rained out early on the 8th and came home. We were all hungry, so we went to IHOP. We looked like drowned rats and smelled like campfire. It was fabulous.
(Gorgeous fog in the morning. Mmm.)

(Yay greasy camp hair!)

(The girls)

(Beautiful sister and me)
  • 12th-15th ~ Kristi and Ronnie came to Vegas for an awesome weekend.
  • 12th ~ We went and played Bingo and a few slots. It was my first time gambling (besides buying Lotto tickets when I was 19) and I wasn't too impressed with it. We also ate at an awesome buffet. So yummy!
  • 13th ~ The three of us, plus Alyson's friends Akilah and Aaron, walked the strip. It was a lot more fun that I first thought it was going to be. The night was full of laughs. Hey. Can anyone teach me how to Dougie?
(My beautiful sisters.)

(The group walking the strip!)
  • 14th ~ Alyson, Kristi and I went and saw KA! Cirque du Soleil! It was phenomenal. It blew my mind on so many levels.
(My sisters are beautiful. I love them.)
  • 15th ~ We all said our goodbyes to Alyson and headed home. It was fun staying in Vegas, but I was so happy to be home again.
  • 16th ~ I went to FHE where everyone seemed pretty excited to see me. We learned how to Country Swing Dance. Kill me now.
  • 18th ~ Nashelle came over for a little while and we laughed about people getting married and other funny things. I miss her already.
  • 19th-31st ~ I kind of disappeared into my room. I'm having trouble finding a job, and have been very depressed lately. I'm really trying to get over it. Hope I do soon.
Happiest Moment(s): There were quite a few amazing moments, but these two stand out in my mind.
  1. My mom rushing to hug me when we went to pick her up from my Grandma's after I got home, saying: "Is that my baby?" It was an incredible moment.
  2. When I first got home, no one was home. The sound of my dad calling my name and crashing down the stairs to hug me.
Those were the two happiest moments.

Saddest Moment: Finding out that my grandma has cancer and that she's not going to be with us much longer.

TV:
  • Firefly ~ I finished it and Serenity (the companion movie). I liked it. But I think it was the movie that sold it for me.
  • Boy Meets World ~ I got into the 5th Season and I love it just as much as I usually do. I just watched my all time favorite episode. It's pathetic how well I can quote the lines. Watch it here, here and here
Books:
  • The Hunger Games ~ Reread. Just as captivating the third time. I love this book.
  • Catching Fire ~ Also a reread. The sequel to Hunger Games. I also love this one.
  • Mockingjay ~ First time reading it. It was the third in the Hunger Games trilogy and it came out this month, which is why I reread the other two. I didn't like it. I'm just being honest. I didn't like it.
Favorite Food: Campbell's Vegetarian Vegetable soup. It's 90 calories of yum! It's Mmm mmm good!

Overall Impression: The first half of the month was incredible. I absolutely loved it. The second half I didn't love so much. I'm hoping it doesn't take me another two weeks to snap out of this funk.
