Hoping to Win an ARC
Well hello, my friends.
Have you ever read a book that you enjoyed so much that you just couldn't possibly wait for the next installment to hit shelves.
Well, that's how I'm feeling about The Infernal Devices Trilogy.
Cassandra Clare is holding a contest. And one lucky person gets a copy of Clockwork Prince before it hits shelves on December 6th.
I want it.
Badly.
So I made this!
I think it's pretty darn awesome if I do say so myself. I spent a lot of time on it to make it look like it matches the other two.
What do you think?

Personality
I've noticed in so many of my recent posts that I've been holding myself back.
I only show the side of myself that I think is least likely to be made fun of.
Well today, I'm going to change that.
Today I'm going to show off my goofier side.
This is me!
I sing Broadway songs at the top of my lungs when I'm home alone!
I smell my hair when I think no one is watching!

Six Degrees of Katie's Brain
My head is a jumbled mess of thoughts. So many of them are unconnected, but like six degrees of Kevin Bacon, I'm sure I could figure out a way to connect them.
Thought #1: It's weird seeing people my age getting married. People YOUNGER than me getting married. I'm happy for them. Albeit a little jealous. But when it comes down to it, I'm not ready for that kind of a commitment. Maybe if I had that one amazing guy in my life, I'd be willing and capable of taking that step. But at the moment, I haven't found the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with. So, it's not that I'm jealous that they are married and moving on with their lives, starting that new chapter in their lives. I'm jealous that they have someone to love for the rest of eternity and I don't.
Thought #2: Why am I having so much trouble keeping to my diet or to my exercise plan? I want to lose this weight. So badly. I've been stuck within 3 pounds on either side of 180 for the past 4 months. It's aggravating. After losing nearly 40 pounds so quickly, being stuck at this weight that doesn't satisfy me is really bothering me. I don't think that my clothes look nice on my body, though I try my best to hide how uncomfortable I feel. (Connection to #1: I've been feeling like my appearance isn't attractive to men.)
Thought #3: I'm still unemployed. In October, I'll have been unemployed for a year. It's not that I haven't been trying to find a job. I just under qualified. I know that I need to get over my stupid pride and start at the bottom. Work at McDonald's or something. But honestly... the thought repulses me. For a few reasons, but the biggest one is that I have little to no self control when it comes to food. I've been doing pretty well trying to avoid fast food, but if I work there, I might just gain those 40 pounds right back. I can't let that happen. But I hate that I don't have any money. To buy clothes, to buy a car, to get out of my parent's house. (Connection to #2: Maybe if I had money to buy clothes better suited for my body type right now, I wouldn't feel so awkward at my weight.)
Thought #4: I've been messing around with Photoshop again after a long time. It's taken a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things, but I think I picked it up alright. I worked on my blog and I love the way it turned out. I owe Photoshop for all of that. I feel like I should get back into making videos as well. I haven't made a video since I started losing weight. Mostly because I was losing weight so quickly, I thought it wouldn't be long before I looked all smashing. I could make a video in a few months and surprise all of my viewers with how good I looked. But I don't feel like I'm at that point yet, so I haven't made a video. I've been trying to write a lot more as well, but I don't feel like it's anything special. It doesn't ignite my interest. (Connection to #3: I feel mediocre in everything I do. Why would anyone want to hire someone mediocre when they can have someone amazing?)
Thought #5: I want to read. But every time I sit down with a book, I read half a chapter and lose interest. (Connection to #4: Maybe I'm jealous that the writing is better than mine?)
Thought #6: My grandma is really sick. She has cancer and has only been given a few months to live. I think I've taken for granted how wonderful she is. I love her so much. I've been learning so much about her just by listening to my family members talk about her life. Yesterday she told a simple story about how when my grandpa proposed, he had to leave soon after. He was in the military and was stationed somewhere else. He sent her the rings in the mail and she had to put it on her own hand. I wish I had taken more time to get to know about her life. She's an amazing woman, and I have only seen a small bit of her incredible life. (Connection to #5: My grandma's life is a story that I don't know, just like all those books that I can't find the gumption to read.)
This post was kind of depressing. Forgive me for my rants. I've just got so many negative thoughts in my head right now and needed to get them out somehow. I'll try and replace them with positive ideas and get back to happy posting soon.

Plans
Life is random. I can never predict what I'm going to be doing a day in advance, let alone a month, a year, a lifetime.
Right now I am just trying to live one day at a time.
Today? It hasn't gone according to plan. But, I can't really complain.
Yesterday I slept for 16.5 hours. Today I slept for four. I'm a little sleepy, but I think it's mostly because I'm doing tedious things.
I had planned on sleeping much longer. A full 8 hours was the hope. Instead I opened my eyes at four in the morning and started my day.
I started some laundry that has started piling up around my room. I decided that while I waited, I would get on my desktop computer and edit a few photos that I took. Without even opening Photoshop, I went to work trying to make it run better and faster. Now, 6 hours later, it is being upgrades to Windows 7. I've been procrastinating the change because I didn't want to move all of my junk and then reinstall my favorite programs. I know that it will make my computer run so much faster, so a little bit of extra effort is going to be worth it.
The plan for the rest of the day? Probably going to change as the day goes on. But for now:
- Finish cleaning my room. Laundry, dusting, vacuuming and other odds and ends. (I have a hankering to reorganize my book shelves... but that will have to wait for another day.
- Shower and get looking fancy. I love looking and feeling fancy.
- Fix up my computer. Make sure it's running properly and has all of my favorite programs.
- Play a little Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. An online friend and I are racing to finish first. We already played Twilight Princess (I won. Cause I'm awesome.) And we plan on playing two others once this one is finished.
- Go to Institute. I haven't been since my first week in Vegas. That was back in July. I miss it. It's the beginning of the Fall schedule so I'll be able to go on both Wednesdays and Thursdays. Can't wait!
- Read some Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
- Edit some photos. (That is if #3 gets done.)
- Write notes to people I love to brighten their days. (I bought new stationary. I love it.)
Sounds like a full load.
Ooh! Upgrade is completed! Thanks Blog for distracting me so nicely!
By the way, here are four photos I'm looking forward to editing in crazy ways. Changing hair color, putting me in crazy places, anything that I can manage in Photoshop. So stay tuned. I'll post these four photos once they have been edited.
If you have any ideas for edits, let me know. I'm always looking for great new ideas. (Also, I must love you guys if I let you see raw images of myself. Mwah!)

Look Alike?
It's been a trend on Facebook lately to change your profile picture to a picture of a celebrity that someone has said you look like. I've thought about it a few times, but something like this felt like it needed a bit of explanation. More explanation that the little caption below the picture could give. So a blog post it must be.
Recently I have been getting a lot of comments from people telling me that I look like Kirsten Dunst. I just don't see it.
However, once in high school, a friend told me that I looked like Chucky. "Like from Rugrats?" "No! Like the killer doll!" The sad thing is, she was completely serious.
I don't know if it was the blue eyes or the mischievous grin that sometimes resides on my face that made her think this. But I see some distinct differences. He still has his baby teeth. I lost all of mine by fourth grade. He's a boy. I haven't ever been one of those...except that one night, but it was just a costume, I swear! Oh! And how could I forget? He has an abundance of jagged gashes all over his face which I am sure I didn't have that day in the cafeteria when she made me very self conscious of my horror factor.
So, though I don't see it, I'll let people tell me that I look like Kirsten Dunst.
I did a photoshop edit once, giving myself red hair. I called it Mary Jane red and ever since, I have wanted to dye it that color. That's the closest resemblance I've ever seen, but I really think it's just the hair.
I suppose I find that I look more like Mary Jane than I do Kirsten in general. Maybe it's the hair.
I don't complain that people think I look like her. It is definitely not the end of the world. There are much worse people I could be compared to (like Chucky for example) and she is a very pretty girl.
And who wouldn't want to shoot a scene where you get to kiss a hot guy in a mask, upside down, and in the rain. Yeah. I can stand to be Kirsten Dunst.

Photoshop
A friend of mine was searching in vain for a set of red eyes on a black background for an online group for which she was creating the layout. I took to opportunity and volunteered to make her some. Love the result! (Especially the fact that if you focus on a pupil, it DILATES! Creepy!)

I've lately come to realize that I LOVE photoshop! I thought I'd share with you some of my favorites!
