Preview!

Yesterday was the first day since March 11th that I didn't post something on my blog.

And it felt strange to me.

But after a month and a half of pre-planned and scheduled posts, I decided to give the blog a break.

One day was enough.

Now, I'm not planning on posting every day for this month, but I'm definitely going to post as much as I can.

I've got some great things coming this month!

We will be having a total of seven amazing guest bloggers throughout the month. Six of them will post next week and another on the 22nd.

It's my birthday on the 12th and I will be posting a special post that day to celebrate! I'm turning 22 and that's totally crazy to me. Why do we have to grow up so quickly? Either way, I'm excited to see what another year has in store for me!

I'm going to be having a few awesome adventures this month that I can't wait to experience! (And later blog about!)

I have two interviews this week. One today and one on Friday. I hope to have a few more on the way in the coming weeks. If I don't have a job by the 20th, then I'm being shipped back home to Utah. I hope that doesn't happen! So wish me luck! All of your good thoughts would be very much appreciated! If anything, I'm going to be an expert at interviews by the time this is all over!

The weight loss regime is back as well! So, be looking out for some great posts about tips and stories! 25 pounds to go to my goal! Anyone else on MyFitnessPal.com? I just started and am loving the site! I'd love to have you as a friend/motivation buddy!

It's going to be a great month filled with photos, stories, tips and guests! Stay tuned!

Also, sorry about the video I posted on Sunday. It's temperamental and doesn't like to work for me all the time, either. So here's another replacement. Hopefully it will make up for the fail of the other video!

What are you looking forward to this month?

And I'm Feelin' Good!

I've been doing really well on my new diet and exercise regime! I've lost 4 pounds in the past 7 days and I'm feeling pretty darn amazing! So tonight, for kicks and giggles, I decided to try on my favorite dress. It has been my favorite dress since I was 213 pounds (my heaviest.) And with every pound I drop, it just keeps looking better. I can't say that with a lot of clothes. Most look baggy and unflattering now that I've lost 40 pounds. But this dress continues to look better and better. I thought I would show you a short timeline of me wearing this dress!

Fall of 2008 - Approximately 210 pounds

April 2010 - Approximately 188 Pounds

Today! - 172 Pounds!

(Isn't my cat so adorable? And wow I need to clean that mirror.)

It's crazy to see the difference. When you lose weight, you see yourself everyday and can't always see the pounds coming off. Looking at pictures really helps you to realize it! I can't wait to try on this dress at my goal of 155 pounds and see how fabulous it looks on me!

I'm feeling pretty awesome right now.

Six Degrees of Katie's Brain

My head is a jumbled mess of thoughts. So many of them are unconnected, but like six degrees of Kevin Bacon, I'm sure I could figure out a way to connect them.

Thought #1: It's weird seeing people my age getting married. People YOUNGER than me getting married. I'm happy for them. Albeit a little jealous. But when it comes down to it, I'm not ready for that kind of a commitment. Maybe if I had that one amazing guy in my life, I'd be willing and capable of taking that step. But at the moment, I haven't found the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with. So, it's not that I'm jealous that they are married and moving on with their lives, starting that new chapter in their lives. I'm jealous that they have someone to love for the rest of eternity and I don't.

Thought #2: Why am I having so much trouble keeping to my diet or to my exercise plan? I want to lose this weight. So badly. I've been stuck within 3 pounds on either side of 180 for the past 4 months. It's aggravating. After losing nearly 40 pounds so quickly, being stuck at this weight that doesn't satisfy me is really bothering me. I don't think that my clothes look nice on my body, though I try my best to hide how uncomfortable I feel. (Connection to #1: I've been feeling like my appearance isn't attractive to men.)

Thought #3: I'm still unemployed. In October, I'll have been unemployed for a year. It's not that I haven't been trying to find a job. I just under qualified. I know that I need to get over my stupid pride and start at the bottom. Work at McDonald's or something. But honestly... the thought repulses me. For a few reasons, but the biggest one is that I have little to no self control when it comes to food. I've been doing pretty well trying to avoid fast food, but if I work there, I might just gain those 40 pounds right back. I can't let that happen. But I hate that I don't have any money. To buy clothes, to buy a car, to get out of my parent's house. (Connection to #2: Maybe if I had money to buy clothes better suited for my body type right now, I wouldn't feel so awkward at my weight.)

Thought #4: I've been messing around with Photoshop again after a long time. It's taken a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things, but I think I picked it up alright. I worked on my blog and I love the way it turned out. I owe Photoshop for all of that. I feel like I should get back into making videos as well. I haven't made a video since I started losing weight. Mostly because I was losing weight so quickly, I thought it wouldn't be long before I looked all smashing. I could make a video in a few months and surprise all of my viewers with how good I looked. But I don't feel like I'm at that point yet, so I haven't made a video. I've been trying to write a lot more as well, but I don't feel like it's anything special. It doesn't ignite my interest. (Connection to #3: I feel mediocre in everything I do. Why would anyone want to hire someone mediocre when they can have someone amazing?)

Thought #5: I want to read. But every time I sit down with a book, I read half a chapter and lose interest. (Connection to #4: Maybe I'm jealous that the writing is better than mine?)

Thought #6: My grandma is really sick. She has cancer and has only been given a few months to live. I think I've taken for granted how wonderful she is. I love her so much. I've been learning so much about her just by listening to my family members talk about her life. Yesterday she told a simple story about how when my grandpa proposed, he had to leave soon after. He was in the military and was stationed somewhere else. He sent her the rings in the mail and she had to put it on her own hand. I wish I had taken more time to get to know about her life. She's an amazing woman, and I have only seen a small bit of her incredible life. (Connection to #5: My grandma's life is a story that I don't know, just like all those books that I can't find the gumption to read.)

This post was kind of depressing. Forgive me for my rants. I've just got so many negative thoughts in my head right now and needed to get them out somehow. I'll try and replace them with positive ideas and get back to happy posting soon.

  • 3rd ~ Broke up with Tim.
  • 11th ~ Dinner at Wingers with Natalie and bonfire at the sand dunes.
  • 15th ~ Natalie took me to opening night of Damn Yankees. Great fun.

Happiest Moment: Weighing 176 pounds. My lowest in YEARS!

Saddest Moment: The whole month was spent really depressed, so they all get lost in there.

TV:
  • Pretty Little Liars - Teen drama and is kind of corny... but I find it really entertaining. Everyone needs a guilty pleasure.
  • Persons Unknown - Very much like I imagine Saw is, but without the gore. I haven't decided what I think yet.
  • 100 Questions - Incredibly cheesy sitcom, but it's something to have to watch every week.
Favorite Food: Chocolate milk wins again this month.

Overall: It was a really hard month. I'm definitely glad it's over.

P.S.

I've had a crappy knee since July of 2007. It happened at a big family gathering. We rented out the second floor of a restaurant and as we climbed the stairs, my knee popped. It hurt SO badly. I have no idea what I did. I didn't feel like I stepped wrong, put my weight on it funny. It was fine one moment and screwed up the next. It hurt inexplicably for two weeks.

Something everyone should know about me. I hate the sound of popping. Popping knuckles, necks, backs, toes. Any body part that can be popped, if I hear it, I cringe. I'll pop my own knuckles and shudder a little inside. The sound of popping is my nails on a chalk board.

Well... my knee has popped since that day I walked up the stairs in that restaurant. Not just once. Three times. Each time I stood up. "Pop pop pop." Each time I danced. "Pop pop pop." Each time I walked up the stairs. "Pop pop pop. Pop pop pop. Pop pop pop." You get the picture.

Squats. Torture for my knee. Listening to my knee popping each time I bent down... like torture. Well, today, I was working out. Jillian Michaels. She's kind of crazy anyway, and by the end of a circuit I look at her like she's a mad woman. But to hear the words "Okay! Jumping Squats!" come out of her mouth at the beginning of a circuit... my face instantly turned to skepticism and worry. I could already hear my knee popping. But I tried. I try all of the work outs.

Jump one. Squat. Jump two. Squat. Jump three. Squat. Wait... No "pop pop pop?" And the same for jumps and squats four, five, six and all the rest. I didn't "pop pop pop" once. Weight loss is saving my knee.

I might not need knee surgery before I'm 40 like I thought! This weight loss thing just keeps getting better and better.

High School Body

I've mentioned before that when I look at old pictures from high school, I can't help but think how silly I was to think I was fat. True, I was bigger than the majority of my friends... that might have had something to do with it.

Well, I had the realization the other day that I'm VERY quickly getting too small for my clothes. And unfortunately, I don't have the money to buy new clothes. But I had another realization. I'm about the weight I was in high school. I have old clothes from high school upstairs that didn't fit me when I got bigger.

I tried the ones that are still cute on today and...

They fit!

Too bad I got rid of my pants. I have a few new cute tops and AWESOME work out pants! Feeling skinny and fabulous. 22 pounds left to my goal weight. I can't even imagine how great it's going to feel when I'm there if I'm feeling so good right now.

By the way, jumping squats, my new favorite exercise. It hurts so good. Oh baby, makes me hurt so good.

Snazzy

I felt awesome today. I felt like my weight loss was showing, I love my dress, my shoes, my hair, my accessories. My makeup was great too! I just felt really snazzy.

Church was also amazing today. I very much enjoyed it. The spirit there was incredible.

P.S. Yes. I own each Nintendo console. I'm just that cool.

Anticipation

Things I am excited for:
  • Weighing in the 170's again. I'm so stinkin' close! I haven't been in the 170's since my sophomore year in high school. I look back at those pictures and wonder why I complained about being fat. I most certainly wasn't. And to be in the 170's means that I'll look like I did in those pictures; only more mature and with better hair and fashion sense.
  • The Outlaw Trail Theater musical! It has finally been announced! (It's about time. 12 days to prepare an audition song?! Really Arts Council? You're lucky that I have the perfect one!) We'll be doing Damn Yankees and I'm pretty excited about it.
  • Vegas. In a week I'll be in Vegas to help my wonderful sister move into her house. I'll be there for five days, painting a few rooms in her house, moving all of her stuff, and just having some good ol' happy family fun.
This month is starting off well, and has the potential to stay that way. I am determined to make it so!

In other news, I'm home alone. I don't know why, but I decided that because I was, I would head to the kitchen to make myself some food in only a tanktop and panties. Nothing else. I mean, who is going to see me? I'm home alone.

"Hey Kates." My nephew decided to come over for a sec and say hi.
"Uh... close your eyes for a second bud, kay? I'm only in my swimming suit..." It seemed like a good excuse... *sigh* I hope I haven't scarred him for life.

Hittin' the Road

Why is it on the days that I don't need sleep, I can sleep for hours without stirring; but on the days when I need to get a full night's rest, I can't seem to keep my eyes closed?

I'm heading down to visit my best friend at college for a few days. She is playing Maria in West Side Story, and I couldn't be more excited to see her perform. Everyone says she puts Natalie Wood to shame. I can't wait to see it.

I'm driving down alone, and that thought both thrills and scares me. I have driven home from Salt Lake by myself, and so I feel that if I can do that, I can do this. My only problem, I don't think I've ever been conscious any time I've driven to Ephraim, Utah; I'm just praying I don't get lost and end up in Moab or something. On the plus side, I've never seen the arches. However, I'm still hoping that I will not see them on this trip.

I do however love to drive. Ever since I was little, my parents would plan a road trip and we pile into the car and go. I've seen 31 of the 32 states I've been to and Canada and Mexico on these road trips. They are some of my fondest memories. As I got older, my dad and I would just get in the car and drive around town, listening to my music. It's always been one of my favorite ways to de-stress. I put in a CD, turn up the volume to an unhealthy-for-my-ears level and belt all of my problems away. I will have four hours to myself, listen to whatever music I feel like, and simply enjoy the road before me. I can't wait. Ah, the joys of a solitary road trip.

I'll be heading out this afternoon, I have most of my stuff packed, and I am just excited to go. Spend time with strangers (strangely, so excited to meet all of these new people), go to a college class, see Nashelle perform, in one of my all time favorite shows, and simply spend time with my best friend that I never see anymore. It's going to be a great three days!

OH! P.S. I looked in the mirror yesterday after getting dressed. My arms are getting SO skinny. I study myself frequently, and while I notice a difference, it's so gradual that I can't see much change. I do notice it though. I was able to squeeze into a pair of pants I haven't worn since high school. They are still tight, but they fit. It's incredible. I'm SO in love with this!

P.P.S. I bought a Jillian Michaels exercise DVD. She is one sadistic woman. I'm seeing results like crazy (and definitely feeling them), but I feel like I'm going to die while actually doing the work outs. I'm sure that's the point.

Catch up

Warning: This is quite a lengthy post. Here is a quick run through of what this post will include:
  1. Boys
  2. Batman refuses to save my life
  3. Scales
  4. Anti-social week
Let's work backwards.

4). For the last six days I did absolutely nothing but sit in my room watching movies. I didn't shower. I didn't talk to anyone save quick 'hello - goodbye' conversations. Judge me. I don't have a job, and this is how I justify spending my time. I made conscious decisions every time a chance to leave the house appeared. I simply stayed home. I DID go to Subway on Thursday... I believe that is the only time I left my house all week. I watched a total of 28 movies over the course of this week. Yes. That is a lot of movies. (I own roughly around 278, including TV on DVD and it is my goal to watch them all by the end of May. I kicked out a huge chunk of that this week.)

3). The bathroom scale and I have always had a love/hate kind of relationship. You know what, it's more like he's the bad boyfriend I just can't quit. He's mean and abusive, and always made me feel fat. But there's just something about the brutal honesty that I adore. Well, Scaley and I have a much better relationship now. He's treating me nice, and the best part is, he's still completely honest. I suppose I have put A LOT of work into our relationship, and it's actually starting to pay off. I took him upstairs to meet my family when he said "189.6 darling. 189.6" this evening. It was the most rewarding moment of our relationship thus far. And you know what that means? He's just one step closer to saying that thing I want to read most. "165! Oh, 165!" And I will say it right back, no hesitations.

2). An old friend of mine had a dream about me last night. After a very long night, I had pretty much determined that I was not going to go to church (I'm sure it was the anti-social week thoughts lingering in my head.) and I got on my computer to email my R.S. Pres to tell her I wouldn't make it. But upon opening facebook, I noticed a wall post from Niki. "I just had the craziest dream about you...remind me to tell you about it! OH MY GOSH!" I debated with the tired portion of my mind for a moment, but the curiosity section has always been slightly overbearing and bullied me out of bed. After Sacrament Meeting, I pulled her aside and she very animatedly told me about her dream."

"You were the main character... and well... you died." Gasp! "Basically, there were a couple of kids that had died already, and somehow they were connected with you. It was also your birthday, and the ward threw you this big ol' birthday party at my house! You were sitting by this big window when I realize that the other deaths were ways to get to you and that if you stood up, the people were going to shoot your through the window. I turned to Batman and said, 'Batman! They are going to kill Katie!' and he said, 'Yeah, I know...' 'Well, can you do something? Save her?' 'Well.... we both know she's already going to die. I'll get the bad guys after they kill her.' (HAHAHAHA) So I get your attention, sneaking you out of my house. You would NOT cooperate. You just didn't understand that people were trying to kill you. It was very frustrating. I told you to hide in the bushes while I got the car so that we could drive away, but a spider landed on you and you freaked out. You ran into the front yard screaming and they shot you. You were dead in my front yard. I think that's about when I woke up."

I think Niki's dream had some secret meaning. If I hadn't come to church, I might have suffered some kind of spiritual death. So, thanks to Niki and her crazy dream, I came and didn't spiritually die. So, while I might have died in your dream, Niki, you still saved me. Thank you. (Batman though, I might have to pound on him and his utility belt a little bit.)

1). Boys. Pete has changed wards. I'm not sad about this exactly. Just thought it should be mentioned. I also found out that Gavin is my home teacher. (I got home taught after church today before Linger Longer) I'm very excited about this. He's just cute. Not cute like an otter, cute as in 'I'm manly and make wooden benches.' Also... things won't be happening with Devin. I have become really good friends with this girl Sarah. She likes him. And I'm fairly certain that he likes her as well. I didn't realize this until after I sat next to him in Sunday School today. Eeshk. Either way, things might be different if Sarah had known I liked him, but she didn't. So I'm just going to step back from that. It's no biggie.

P.S. It was also my best friend's birthday yesterday! She has forbidden me from mentioning names. Silly girl. Either way, happy 20th! Love you!

This and That

You know, I've been trying to find events in my life that are blog worthy for nearly a week. Everything I do just seems too simple or mundane to create an entire blog post, let alone anything witty. I'm at a loss. So, I'm simply going to give you snippets from my life this past week.

I decided to start a gratitude journal. Well...blog actually. I decided that I needed reminding that there were good things in my life even though sometimes it doesn't seem like it. It's really only for me, and the past three days have been pretty great because of it. You are all welcome to read it, and I also encourage you to do the same. (I have yet to make it adorable, don't judge me.)

As of this morning, I have officially lost 20 pounds in 2 months. It's incredible what eating right and using appropriate portion sizes can do! I'm living testament that it works and hopefully will continue working.

I got roped into singing in a musical number in Sacrament Meeting on Valentines Day. It's not just me. It's a whole choir number. It's not a permanent choir, but I think that we should make it permanent. It's been so much fun, although challenging. We have one week to learn this song that has tricky four part harmony and piano and violin accompaniments. It's a BEAUTIFUL song. (And there are REALLY cute guys in the choir. Mmm. Music and musically talented boys. The best of both worlds.)

Sunday was full of butterflies and smiles. I know I said I don't think I'm feeling anything special for Pete, but I've always enjoyed it when a guy winks at me. He did so multiple times throughout the three hours we were both in the church house. Maybe the butterflies in my stomach were really feelings of guilt. Here was this guy that really seems to like me (for once) and I'm just not sure I can feel the same way about him. I've tried to make myself feel better by telling myself that he simply had an eyelash in his eye... that seemed to only plague him when he caught my gaze. Yeah. That's plausible, isn't it? Or maybe he hates me so much he has developed some kind of nervous tick that makes his face light up when he sees me. Am I doomed to only like guys that don't return the favor?

I've decided to go stag to the Valentine's Dance this Saturday. Is that pathetic? I don't think so. From what I heard from the guys at choir practice last night, they are all going, but don't have dates. No wonder I never date. The guys around here don't even ask girls to a free Valentines Day event. For crying out loud...

I hope that I'll find more interesting things to write about soon! Wish me luck!

A few things to mention:

1. I have a lot of split ends. My sister gave me some money to get a hair cut, but I have yet to do so. I should get on that. Maybe I'm just procrastinating because, well...I don't have a job. So knowing that I have $50 in my purse makes me feel a little better. So I've taken to pinching a clump of hair at a time and taking to it with the scissors. I see a split end...it's get chopped. I will sit down for half an hour and just hack away at my splits. It never seems to help. I could grab a section of hair right this second and...*grabs a section of hair and looks*...Nope. You can't tell that I just spent the better part of an online conversation eliminating split ends. Maybe if I keep going.

2. While writing the first part of this post...I broke one of my favorite necklaces. Yes, the cute red one in my profile picture. Smooth.

3. I've lost a total of 16 pounds. I mentioned this in a quick sentence a day or so ago, but I thought I'd expound. I drink LOTS of water. I eat when I first wake up. I don't snack. I have small portions. I'm dropping weight. I can't remember the last time I weighed 193 pounds. Some tips from me: Chocolate craving? Grab a banana and a teaspoon of Nutella. The combo is fab and Nutella has chocolate, but also has protein. Good stuff, satisfies the craving. *notices a split end and clips it. Distracted now, clips about 17 others* Oh...also, spinach wraps are win!

4. I've done a switch. I finally decided to stop sinking in "The Swamp" and take a step forward. Super hard. I think the farther you sink in, the harder it is to pull out. There's another concept. Hmmm. I'm moving forward though, and I think I see dry land in the distance. It's possible there's another swamp on the other side of that rise, but so be it.

5. *snips snips snips the splits* My main character is about to meet the love interest. WOO! Can't wait to reread that scene!

6. I have church in a few hours! I'm so happy! I need it today!
Here's wishing you all a great Sunday!

    ...

ARGH! Split ends! *hacks at her hair!*

    A Good Day Letter

    Dear Good Day,

I have so many reasons to thank you! You have continually managed to make me smile! If I had a hat, I would tip it off to you!

I'm not sure if you are aware, but here are the things that you have done for me today, GD.

You brought me lots of return messages from people I care about. It been very good to reconnect with friends and family.

You got me motivated to work on my novel again. I read about 12 chapters and will probably read some more before the day is out. It's been so much fun to reacquaint myself with my characters and the story. I had no idea how much I missed it. I also came to the realization that I'm ready and excited for people to read it. When I'm finished reading it through this time, I think I'll start sending out manuscripts!

(You also made me feel like my writing doesn't suck as much as I thought it did.)

Anytime I was feeling a little bit iffy, you did something to make me laugh! Thanks. Laughter is the way to make me happy! Like when you made me smile when my pajama pants fell around my ankles in the kitchen. No one was around and I don't think anyone knew. I pulled the drawstrings tighter. Thanks for making me feel like I'm losing weight!

You allowed me a few moments to watch Friends. I will love you forever for this!

You let me eat spaghetti for breakfast. How awesome are you? Also! You didn't make me gag when I drank that gross yogurt stuff that I drink first thing in the morning. I think I actually enjoyed it a little today. Nice little bonus you've thrown in there!

You also made me feel VERY loved, which was about the best thing ever! I've realized that Heavenly Father has a plan for me, and I just need to smile and be patient.

Anyway, Good Day. My point is this: Thank you for the smiles and happiness!

Hope to see you again really soon!

    Turn around!

Have you ever had one of those days where you are absolutely sure that nothing will make you feel good? You are so depressed, and despite how much it sucks, it seems life is determined to keep you that way.

I was feeling a little self conscious about my weight earlier today. So, because misery...likes me to stay miserable? I decided to get on a scale for the first time in quite a while.

I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and stepped on the scale.

I was prepared for a five pound gain, thereby solidifying my depressed day.

..."Wait..." I did a double take.

"What?!" I leaned forward, making sure I was reading the scale correctly.

"Is that right?!" Tears start forming in my eyes.

"I've lost TEN POUNDS?!" I fold over on myself, joy overwhelming every inch in my body.

For the first time in over a year, I am under 200 pounds!

It's now a great day! The sun is shining, and if all the birds hadn't gone south for the winter, I'm sure they'd be flying around me and singing sweet music!
