Two Entire Years!

I'm going to very honest.

I fail at blogging.

Way to go, Kate. Start a full time job and just drop off the face of the blog-o-sphere.

But I'm going to be honest about one more thing.

I've missed this so much.

Today I realized that this is Simply Kate's 2nd birthday!

I was so excited.

Until I realized that I haven't posted in nearly two and a half months.

Shame on me.

So let's count this as an early resolution. Simply Kate is BACK!

It's been a nice break, but it's even nicer to be posting again!

Happy second birthday, Simply Kate!

Here's to another wonderful year!

Happy Birthday!

Cake smashing goodness.

Today is going to be a pretty low key day. I don't have any plans, but I almost prefer it that way.

(That's a lie! I wish I was partying it up like it was 1999! But I have no friends. Poor me.)

But even so, I'm happy to start a new year of my life. I'm excited to see what adventures twenty-two has in store for me!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Birthday Guests: Kari

Kari from the blog Lime Green Movie Girl is our next wonderful birthday week guest poster! I love her blog! She's got great style, great posts and great taste in movies. Definitely go and check out her blog!

well hello followers of simply kate.

i am the great lime green movie girl.

yeah, in the flesh.
well, my flesh is typing these words. which the internet will turn into binary and then convert back into text for you to read.

someone once asked me why it is i blog.
[and by someone, i mean a fictional character made-up in my head.]

i was far too tired to answer them appropriately.
[because i often stay up till three in the morning doing absolutely nothing.]

so in order to redeem myself, i will tell you now.

i blog, because i think i am funny. witty. and an insanely good [looking] writer.

i blog, because my love language is ‘words of affirmation’ and people often compliment my blogging skillz.

i blog because my therapist recently got a girlfriend and is no longer at my disposal 24/7.
[nevermind the fact that i set them up.]

i blog because my fingers need a work-out after dunking oreos.

i blog because people kept defriending me on facebook due to my constant status updates.
[and stalker-ish tendencies.]

i blog because no one except my mom reads my twitter account.

i blog because i will be famous someday, and want you to feel cool for knowing me before i was.

i blog because ‘i just have a lot of feelings.’ – Mean Girls

...

and for the fine details:

props to miss katie for helping fate select my name from the jar so you could all be graced by my awesome-ness.

props to sarcasm for aiding me in my boastful post.

props to we heart it for the above picture.

She's adorable, is she not? I love this girl and you should too! Go and check out her blog, Lime Green Movie Girl! Thanks again Kari!

Also, I did a guest interview over on Tristacio's blog. She asked some pretty hilarious questions, go and check them out and hear my answers. Did I mention it was a video interview? It's awesome!

Birthday Guests: Jenn

I'm featured over on For The Love of Blogs! It's a pretty awesome feeling! Go check it out!

Our next guest poster is the lovely Jenn from Worth a Fig! She has written a tutorial for us that sounds so awesome! You should definitely check it out!

I sat down at the table in the morning with my three year old daughter to enjoy a breakfast of a wholegrain bagel with cream cheese and orange marmalade. I was feeling a bit under the weather and I seriously needed a pick me up. I was tired, bored, and my hair looked simply hideous. With a sigh I sipped my coffee and leafed through a book called The Beauty Cookbook. I was looking for ideas for my weekly feature called Makeover Monday, and I also wanted to whip something up for my guest post here at Simply Kate. That is when I stumbled across something that made me laugh out loud. The recipe was called “my hair needs a bagel with that conditioner” and I had everything I needed sitting right on the kitchen table. So I pulled out the blender and whipped up a pick me up for my tired, limp hair... and I hoped that my spirits would lift right up with it.

Here is a shot of my dry, brittle hair before the treatment.

All I did was combine 1 egg, a tablespoon of cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of water in a blender and processed it until it was smooth. I combed it all through my hair and let it sit for 15 minutes while I checked my email. It smelled kind of odd. I'm not used to applying cheese and butter to my hair... but it was thick so it stayed put and didn't drip on my clothing. That said, I would put on an old bathrobe for this one and not that sexy silk kimono.

After the timer when off I jumped in the shower (actually I stepped into the shower... you should never jump in the shower) and rinsed the eggy-cheesy gunk out of my locks. I shampooed twice just to make sure that I got all the oily residue out of my hair. I was planning on letting my hair dry naturally because that is what I usually do. My curiosity got the best of me, however, so I got out the blow dryer to speed up the process.

I was pretty impressed with the results. I wouldn't recommend this treatment for everyone, but since I wear my hair in a bob it worked great for me. The treatment gave my hair a glossy shine that might not work for people who wear styles that need more lift and volume. My hair also felt more plump... and for a person like me with very fine hair that was a nice thing. I don't think that I'll do this treatment often. For one thing the smell of the cream cheese kind of clings to your hair and when you blow dry you get a sudden craving for cheesecake or fondue. I also think that it would lead to a waxy build up after a while. It is a great way to add shine to over-processed hair, however, and a great way to add a moment of pampering into an otherwise busy day.

My husband told me how nice my hair looked when he got home from work... with absolutly no fishing on my part at all. He didn't even know that I had put cheese in my hair when he said it. It really must have done something... or maybe I just smelled like breakfast.

Stop by on Monday and join the fun!

Thanks for the great post and the awesome tutorial! I might have to try that sometime soon!

Go and check out Jenn's blog, Worth A Fig! She's fabulous!

Birthday Guests: Lauren

Meet Lauren! She's about the cutest blogger ever! Did I mention that she's also a cartoon? Erm... cartoonist. The second one.

Her blog is hilarious and so fun! Definitely go and check her out!

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren and this is me:

I can also be found like this:

That's me, in bed, playing on my computer and watching TV (but usually
something that isn't a still shot of a cloud). I hang out in bed cause
it's way more comfortable than the couch in my living room and also
because my comforter is way warmer than any other blanket I have.

I have a little blog called the blog you're
about to read and it's content is a bunch of stuff but my main

features are stories about me when I was in awkward/funny/embarrassing
situations.  Oh and then I illustrate them so that they
are hilarious.

Like this one, when I was a ninja!

I have another blog called Scrumptious

Saturdays. It used to be one of my features on my first blog,

"Recipe Friday," but decided to give it it's own home. Every Saturday
I post a new, awesome recipe that I must share with the world. There
are also pretty pictures of the food which will make you immensely
hungry.

If you are reading this, it means you have good taste because from the
first time I happened upon Katie's blog I was hooked. How could anyone
not be? I don't really have anything else to say except thanks to
Katie for letting me guest post, and Happy Birthday!

Thanks again Lauren for the post and birthday wishes!

Can I say that I'm thrilled to finally be in cartoon form? I'm very smiley! I love birthday week!

Preview!

Yesterday was the first day since March 11th that I didn't post something on my blog.

And it felt strange to me.

But after a month and a half of pre-planned and scheduled posts, I decided to give the blog a break.

One day was enough.

Now, I'm not planning on posting every day for this month, but I'm definitely going to post as much as I can.

I've got some great things coming this month!

We will be having a total of seven amazing guest bloggers throughout the month. Six of them will post next week and another on the 22nd.

It's my birthday on the 12th and I will be posting a special post that day to celebrate! I'm turning 22 and that's totally crazy to me. Why do we have to grow up so quickly? Either way, I'm excited to see what another year has in store for me!

I'm going to be having a few awesome adventures this month that I can't wait to experience! (And later blog about!)

I have two interviews this week. One today and one on Friday. I hope to have a few more on the way in the coming weeks. If I don't have a job by the 20th, then I'm being shipped back home to Utah. I hope that doesn't happen! So wish me luck! All of your good thoughts would be very much appreciated! If anything, I'm going to be an expert at interviews by the time this is all over!

The weight loss regime is back as well! So, be looking out for some great posts about tips and stories! 25 pounds to go to my goal! Anyone else on MyFitnessPal.com? I just started and am loving the site! I'd love to have you as a friend/motivation buddy!

It's going to be a great month filled with photos, stories, tips and guests! Stay tuned!

Also, sorry about the video I posted on Sunday. It's temperamental and doesn't like to work for me all the time, either. So here's another replacement. Hopefully it will make up for the fail of the other video!

What are you looking forward to this month?

Happy Birthday!

Nine years ago, I became an aunt. He was such a beautiful little boy.

He is still a beautiful boy.

He is a picky eater. A whiz with video games and putting together Legos. So good at math.

I love you Jeff!

Seven years ago, I became an aunt. Again. She was the most adorable, personality filled little girl.

And she still is.

She is so creative. The best reader and writer. Swims like a fish.

I love you Megs!

Happy Birthday to both of you! I'm excited to watch you grow another year!

Twenty-one and four days!

I've officially been 21 for 4 days. It's been quite the roller coaster.

Wednesday: I had the flu. It only lasted for the day, but I spent the day catching up on my TV shows, watching 2012 and starting Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I also received SO many birthday wishes and felt so very loved. So even though I felt nauseous all day, it was a really great birthday.

Thursday: I felt better, which was great. I finished my first book of the year (Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz) and it totally turned me off reading. The ending sucked and I was depressed for the rest of the evening. Had to stop myself from breaking into tears at the grocery store. (I get really into the books I read... when they end badly, I am devastated.) So to cheer myself up, I watched three awesome movies. Star Trek, Time Traveler's Wife, and The Blind Side. I felt much better by the time I went to bed.

Friday: My BFF Nashelle took me to lunch for my birthday and then bought me earrings afterward. The girl spoiled me with presents and I love them all. An adorable frame/candle set, a slipper foot massager, a skirt and a dress. Thanks so much Nashelle! Then 12 Steps which had such an amazing spirit. I love those meetings and I'm feeling so great right now!

Saturday: We had a Bridal Shower for a Relief Society activity. We have a few girls getting married this summer. It was lots of fun. Natalie and I went shopping after and I bought some pretty cute stuff. We went to Robin Hood later in the evening. It was... not my favorite. There were things I liked... but I didn't enjoy how much the storyline differed from traditional Robin Hood stories. Oh well. It was still great to hang out with her and get out of the house.

It's been a great four days, despite sickness and depressing books. I'm feeling VERY blessed!

Happy Birthday?

I never know what to say when people ask me "What do you want for you birthday?" I usually reply with a "Nothing. Really. Don't get me anything." because it's the easy answer. In truth, there are so many things that I want, but I don't feel comfortable asking for.

However, we all get those gifts that no one really wants and you didn't ever ask for. We put on a pleasantly surprised and gracious face, because it's the thought that counts. But in our minds, we know that the gift is eventually going to be dumped.

Well, my body decided to give me a gift this morning. Woke me up bright and early for it too. A big, shiny case of Food Poisoning.

Happy Birthday to me...

But I'm trying to put on a pleasantly surprised and gracious face, because it's the thought that counts. My body is merely saying:

Body: "Okay Katie. I decided to get you a very practical gift. You're 21 now, so I just thought I'd give you a taste of what it will feel like to drink. If you ever do, you'll have a date with a toilet."
Katie: "You're right body. That's a very practical and well thought out gift. Thank you."

However, I have to tell you all that this present has already been dumped. And if I'm really lucky... I'll be dumping it a few more times.
