Time Travel Tuesdays

When I was about 6, I was sitting with my 18 year old sister and my mom in my mother's bed. It was pretty late and we were all just giggling and talking when I thought I heard the doorbell ring.

I was sure that I had heard it, but my sister and my mom hadn't heard a noise.

After a few moments of arguing, my sister decides to go and check the door. I, with the intent of laughing at her when she was proven wrong, went with her.

Kristi opened the door just a crack, peered out into the night, screamed bloody murder and slammed the door again. I was shocked and shaken. She then proceeded to push me toward the door as she ran back down the hall.

I thought I was going to pee my pants. Some terrible monster was just outside the door and my sister had left me  behind!

I ran as fast as I could to my mother's room, crying and screaming. Then I heard the sound of Kristi's laughter.

It had all been a cruel prank.

Like they had thought, there wasn't anyone at the door. My sister saw an opportunity and took it.

I cried in my mother's arms saying: "Why would she do that to me" for the next half an hour.

Sad thing? I wish I had a little sister so that I could pull the same prank! It's genius!

Kristi was notorious for teasing me. But I can hold my own. Here are a couple of videos of her teasing me.

Time Travel Tuesdays

One spring evening my parents came home. I was about 8 years old and they had left me home alone. This wasn't such a strange occurrence back then. They knew I wouldn't get into any trouble.

But when they got home, I wasn't there. They searched the house. They called my friends. No one had seen me.

So they got in the car and started driving around the neighborhood looking for me.

It was starting to get cold and dark and my parents were getting worried.

But then they found me. I was walking around the neighborhood with a nearly empty cookie sheet. A few candy bars were scattered across it.

You see, recently someone had come to my house with a box of candy. They were fundraising something, and I had realized that this was a gold mine.

So I gathered up all of my old, leftover Halloween candy from 5 months prior and went around selling it back to the people who had given it to me for free when I was trick-or-treating.

My parents followed me down the street as I hit one last house.

I came away with about twenty bucks!

Nothing is better than Soda and Chocolate. Amen!

Here are two clips that prove that I've been awesome since I was three!

1. I played video games (and talk to the characters!)
2. I am already in love with Calvin and Hobbes and I can't even read yet!

Question Monday

These questions are from Jamie @ Spread Your Wings and Fly! She tagged me and
asked me these questions in the tag game! I want you all to go and check out her
blog! It's adorable and she's awesome!

1.    What is your favorite makeup product?

I love, Love, LOVE my Coastal Scents 88 Color Eye Shadow Pallet. It is love!

2.    What would the theme song to your life be?

I think I’d have to pick Change by Taylor Swift. It just really speaks to me.

3.    What is one of your passions?

I love to sing. I have loved singing since I was a little kid. I have videos of me. I can barely talk, but I’m singing anyway.

4.    Who is your fashion icon?

Ha! I don’t actually follow the fashion world much. I wear what I think looks cute and stylish, but I couldn’t tell you anything about designers or models or what have you.

5.    When it comes to men, what is the most important trait he should possess.

Understanding. I’m a chaotic mess sometimes. I don’t always understand my moods. I’m like a Katy Perry song. A guy who can see all of that and understand that that’s just who I am and will love me anyway, that’s what I want.

6.    Who is your hero?

My daddy. He and I are so much alike, and knowing that he has overcome some of the things I’m struggling with and knowing that he’s willing to help me makes me feel so blessed. He’s the best.

7.    What is your favorite quote?

It’s on my sidebar: “Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling.”

8.    What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Being able to look back and reread posts. It’s fun to see how much your writing style has changed, or how you felt about a certain time in your life. It’s fascinating!

Have a question you would like to ask me? I would LOVE to answer them!

Synopsis Sunday

Week three ended early for me. I hit 50,000 words and decided to stop. I have completed NaNoWriMo but I didn't complete a novel. But that's really okay with me. I just wasn't feeling anything towards my novel. Last year, it was almost romantic how much I loved my novel. This one was like a boring boyfriend. It had no passion, was always grumpy, and the relationship wasn't going anywhere fast. So I dumped it. But not before I used it mercilessly to get across the NaNo finish line. No regrets.

Hopefully next year's relationship will work out. Besides, I think I'm still missing last year's. I guess I never got closure. I need to find a publisher. Maybe that will do it.

My FINAL Word Count:

50,026

Guest Blogger: Vic

The always sweet and adorable Vic from Freckles and Fudge was wonderful enough to do our third Guest Blogger Friday during the month of November! I first discovered her blog when she asked me to do a guest post for her! I was so flattered! I thought that I would return the favor. She has such an awesome blog filled with such fun content and stories! Please go and visit her blog and give her some internet hugs!

Hey fab faces. I was so thrilled when Kate guest blogged over on Freckles and Fudge for me. I thought the best way to thank her would be by posting over here today. As busy as I am, I can whip up a pretty rad post in a matter of minutes. I'm a mother to some gorgeous creatures and I whiz around like a bat outta hell sometimes. Okay. Most the times. I multitask. Right now, I'm writing this post, re-vising The Cute Kid Contest, adding new entrants to the voting page, responding to a thousand emails, eating a protein bar {it's pretty darn good} {it's called Clif} if you wanna try and shipping out lingerie from my ebay shop. Yes. I sell on ebay. I have for over 8 years and it's done us pretty good at times. I'm a Gemini. Kinda snotty at times but overall, I think I'm a great friend, lover, fighter and chit chatter.

I love photography. It's something I take pride in. Everyday. I carry my camera around like it's a piece of my clothing. We've been blessed to live in such amazing places. We've experienced a whole lotta good adventures and I'm confident we will more someday. I started Freckles and Fudge a year ago since both girls were in school full time. I enjoy writing and finding amazing people to share my life with. Blogging has taught me many different things. It's made me view my life differently and be more open to sharing my true feelings. I've never been one to care about what others see me as but I am the type of person who needs to be loved by many, hated by few. I have grown close to some bloggers. That's the beauty of networking. Some come into your life, leave quickly, others come in, stay awhile and all of that is okay. We grow and learn something new each day.

I tend to taunt the gators behind our condo. I like adventure and being silly.

I usually say nothing has ever embarrassed me but I have a faithful reader that reminded me of the time I took naked pictures of myself. No. You won't be seeing any here. I took them because I was trying to lose weight. I don't have a scale so i figured  i could see how much i was losing by snapping  a few shots with my phone cam.  I immediately deleted them off but when I went to send my mother in law a photo of Hannah and her new glasses, she expressed that it wasn't Hannah. I guess she was embarrassed too because she never said much, probably thinking I sent on purpose but my mother said something to me. She told me I had really big boobs, which I don't but you know how a camera phone can make everything look better than it really appears to be. In either case, I had Bryan try to figure out how these pics got sent and somehow they got saved to the card which really never deleted them like I thought. It must have been overloaded with pics and just sent them by mistake. How awful. Not because I'm ugly but because you just don't want anyone seeing your naked body. Let alone your mother in law. WOW.

We love to bake. It's been a blessing to have my kids. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am so thankful for them. They light up my day, they are my purpose. Nothing else matters. We live far from family, so it's a bit difficult to share our holidays with them. We usually just have the four of us. It's peaceful yet sad. But I couldn't be more grateful for the air we breathe, the sun that shines on us and the precious moments we have with one another. Each day is a gift. Embrace.

Time Travel Tuesdays

For a good chunk of my life, my mom was a biology teacher. It was a habit that I would sit in my parent's room at night and have them quiz me on science questions. Most of them were things that I was learning in school. But a lot of the time, they would ask me questions that I didn't know the answer to. This way I learned knew things.

One night my parents were asking me questions:

"What is it called when a mammal sleeps through the winter?"

"Hibernation."

"Okay. What is it called when a reptile sleeps through the summer?"

"Aestivation."

"Good!" (That was one they had taught me recently.) "What is it called when a baby animal is growing in it's mother's womb?"

"Gestation."

"Correct! What is it called when a mammal produces milk to feed it's baby?"

...

"Ummm... Carnation?"

Speaking of animals, I've always loved them. Can't say that they've always loved me...

Question Monday

These questions came from Daniela @ dk everyday! She tagged me and I am now answering her questions. You should all go and check out her adorable blog! I love it!

1.    What is your favorite beauty secret?

Add a drop of eye drops to any color of dry eye shadow. Just pick up the color with an eyeliner brush and you’ve got your own liquid eyeliner in any color you want!

2.    If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would love to live up in the North West. Washington State mostly. I love the rain. I love how green everything is. I love everything about it. (No. I’m not talking about Forks. Don’t go there.)

3.    Is there someone in your life who has made a big impact that you no longer speak to?

Yes. For years I was really close to my Jr. High School drama teacher. He helped me through those rough teen years. Even after I left Jr. High and finished High School, I would go to visit him and we’d chat for hours. He helped me grow so much. But he made a few mistakes in his life that lead him down a pretty bad road. I haven’t talked to him since. I really should let him know that I appreciate him.

4.    What job would you love to have?

I would love to be a published author. It might be a long time in the future, but I’m working on it!

5.    If you could be on any TV show, what would it be and what character would you play?

I would love to play Sarah on Chuck. I’m not coordinated at all, and I don’t have her smokin’ hot body. But getting to make out with Zachary Levi would make my day. Mmm. He’s yummy.

6.    What is your favorite holiday?

I’ve always been a fan of the Fourth of July. There’s something about spending the entire day with family on a warm summer day; bbq-ing, fireworks, homemade rootbeer, parades. It’s all so much fun!

7.    Smartphone of choice?

I’ve only had one cell phone in my life and it was nowhere near Smartphone awesome. But from what I’ve seen on the commercials, the DroidX looks so fabulous!

8.    Why do you blog?

I’ve been blogging since I was 15. It started out as a way to connect with cousins that I rarely talked to. It’s always been a way to keep track of my life; to remember things and events that I might have otherwise forgotten. And I’ve met so many great people through blogging. It’s just a part of who I am now.

Synopsis Sunday

Week two is notoriously the worst week in NaNoWriMo. All of the excitement and gumption you had in week one has now faded and you're starting to realize that you have plot holes or no plot at all. This happened to me. I had to force myself to write a lot of days and I don't like the direction my novel is going in.

But then you also have freak occurrences. Last year, I injured my fingertips. Who injures their fingertips? I did in week two. It hurt to type. This year was much worse.

My laptop died.

This very severely killed my motivation and highly depressed me. This whole week has left me feeling really down and unhappy. But I persevered and kept writing.

I even won the 24 hour war in the NaNoWriMo chat room. Now everyone that participated has Weber as their last name. It's an entire army of Weber minions.

My Word Count:

47317

I'm not going to give you all an excerpt this time. I don't feel like I wrote anything too fabulous this week, so... maybe next week if I don't decide to ditch this novel completely once I've hit 50,000 words.

Guest Blogger: Lauren

The wonderful and always fabulous Lauren from Busy Bee Lauren was sweet enough to do our second Guest Blogger Friday during the month of November! I discovered her lovely blog nearly a year ago and I've been in love ever since. She takes the cutest pictures, has the most adorable personality, and always has such fun posts to read! Everyone needs to go and give her some blog lovin'! She's just that amazing!

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren, and I blog over here. Since the awesomespice holiday of Thanksgiving is this month, I will be sharing with you the things that I am most thankful for this year.

1. Books. I love books oh so so so much. And I have read someone AMAZING books this year. I hope I am as lucky with my book findings next year!

2. Sprinkles Cupcakes. Dude. The rumors are absolutely true...Sprinkles has the VERY best cupcakes in the world. I feel fortunate to have a Sprinkles 20 minutes from my home, and I feel even more fortunate that we go there for all special occasions. I dream of their red velvet and coconut cuppycakes!

3. Beautiful Arizona Skies. It might be wickedly hot here, but we have some of the most glorious sunsets and cloud formations. I feel so grateful for this earth Heavenly Father has given us!

4. Blog friends I got to meet. This year I got to meet a lot of friends that started out as readers of my blog, and then turned to real life friends. One of my closest friends, Kate, even flew down from Colorado to stay with me. So amazing! I'm grateful for each of them :) People wonder if online friends are as cherished as real life friends...the answer is YES!

5. Our pets. For my birthday, Ted bought me my very own cockatiel baby bird, Gizmo. I love him so much! And then in July, we bought a baby rabbit, Leo. They add so much happiness to our lives!

6. My photography. My love of photography has grown so much this year. I love my collection of polaroids, and my "toy" cameras...and that I have been able to develop my digital photography skills. It has been a blessing to document each day of our lives.

7. My family. I can't tell you about how much joy my family brings me in my life. They are my best friends, and the greatest people I know. I feel fortunate to live near them and get to spend so much time with them.

8. My Ted. My husband Ted has been a part of my life for over 7 years now, and has been my greatest blessing. He makes me want to be a better person, and makes me smile every day. He is who I am most thankful for.

Thank you for letting me share with you my thankful list!

Zentangles

I hadn't planned on posting on Wednesdays during my crazy November full of writing, but during my breaks from writing. (Which have been many...) I've been doodling like a mad woman. I call it doodling, because that's what it is to me. It is doodling in a controlled, artistic format. And this doodle is called a Zentangle.

Oh my goodness. I first discovered these a about a year and a half ago and fell in love.

This was my first ever Zentangle. Like I said. It is just glorified doodling!

This one has things from some of my favorite books.

I love Zentangling because it doesn't have to be perfect. I messed up so many times in this one, but it still looks great!

I like to put my Zentangles in a circle shape. It gives me a set area to work with when I'm drawing. And I like the circles because I like to hang them up in my room. Like this:

Cute huh?

But you don't need to stick to the basic circle if you aren't into that. You can Zentangle however you want.

Here is one that I did for the Fourth of July!

And this started out as a complete scratch paper and turned into one of my favorites. I think she looks like a fortune teller!

If you aren't sure you can handle something this complex to start with, I recommend just drawing random lines and filling each in with a different doodle.

This one is one of my favorites. All I did was trace the outline of a CD a few times and filled in all of the blank spots. So simple, and yet so awesome!

And this one was done the same way. I just traced four circles. Think Zen Diagram Zentangle. Hehehe.

And for this one I just filled an entire piece of paper with circles and squares of different shapes and sizes.

Zentangling is so easy. Even if you don't feel like you have an artistic bone in your body, I guarantee you can do this. It just takes some patience and practice.

To start, I just outline a random design on a piece of card stock paper. I use a fine point Sharpie because it makes everything stand out so much better than pencil or pen! When you start, it will look something like this. A little cheesy? Don't worry, once it's finished, it will look awesome!

Every so often, I'll get in a mood to Zentangle and pop one out like a warm and yummy toaster pastry. And the past few days, I've been in a Zentangling mood! A few things have been getting me down, and losing myself in the small intricate doodles really helps me.

This one was signifying how I was feeling. The heart is black and hard to read until you get a closer look. Then you can see the ache that is there.

And while I was searching the internet for fun new doodles to use in my Zentangle, I saw a lot of people who incorporated faces into their designs. So I tried it. I LOVE how it turned out!

I am very thrilled with this one. It's my favorite of all time.

You should all try Zentangling! It's SO much fun! I would love to see any that you come up with!

Time Travel Tuesday

When I was about 6 years old, I had been saving up lots of money. Any spare change I found on the ground, or in a couch cushion went into my little jar.

Soon enough I had five whole dollars! And it was burning a hole in my pocket. It was whispering to me: "Spend me, Katie. Spend me!"

So I gave into temptation. I had my dad take me to Walmart, where I spent my entire five dollars on a coloring book and crayons.

Sitting in the back seat on the ride home, I realized something. Something that I found really funny.

I started laughing hysterically at my realization, prompting my father to ask me:

"What's so funny?"

I said something that I've thought so many times since then.

"I just wasted all my money!"

I was always the center of attention. With three  sisters over a decade older than me, I was almost like an only child. And I loved the spotlight.

Question Monday

A few months back, I was tagged by a few bloggers in the tag game! While I'm not going to pass it on, I though this would be a good time to answer the questions that they asked me.

These questions came from KG @ A City Girl in Rural Alaska. Go and check out her blog. It makes me laugh every time I read it!

1.    You are having dinner with your celebrity crush. Who are you with and where?

I’m making Ne-Yo take me to On The Border. I mean seriously. Those gorgeous pouty lips of his eating a fajita? It would be magic! Though… I’m not sure if he’d look as sexy in a Sombrero as he does in a Fedora.

2.    If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Mashed Potatoes. Do I get a choice of toppings as well? I’ll pick three. Cheese. Gravy. Ranch.

3.    Has a fortune cookie ever told you your fortune.

Once I had a cookie tell me that romance would come my way. I’m sure once it does, I can say it’s true!

4.    When you are at the movies, which arm rest is yours?

Honestly, I don’t use the arm rests. I fold my arms. I’m not sure why this is. Maybe they have the air conditioning on too high.

5.    If you could choose one song as a form of torture for your enemies, which song would you choose and why?

OMG by Usher. It’s catchy. It’s peppy. It eventually gets on your nerves and would bend anyone to my will.

6.    What movie do you watch every time it comes on TV even though you own the DVD?

Lord of the Rings. If I see it, I can’t help but keep it there. I admit that I am obsessed with it. Mmm. So good.

7.    What was your biggest childhood fear? Does it still scare you?

I was terrified of BeetleJuice. He haunted my nightmares many a night. Now I realize that’s he’s just Michael Keaton dressed kind of strangely, perving on a young Winona Ryder.

8.    Are you a morning person, or a night owl?

I am a certified night owl. I will try and try to get on a normal day time schedule, but I always fail. I just function better at night.

Have any questions you'd like to ask me? I would love to answer them!
